About this tool
The Chat History Export tool preserves Teams chat history during tenant migrations by exporting conversations as HTML files to user OneDrive in the target tenant.
Uses dual-tenant OAuth with separate source (read-only) and target (write) apps for least privilege. Chats are formatted as readable HTML with timestamps, attachments, and conversation threading.
Essential for compliance and user continuity when migrating between tenants.

Limitations & out-of-scope
Deliberately does not attempt to recreate live Teams conversations in the target tenant — Chat.Read on the source and Files.ReadWrite.All on the target produce static HTML files dropped into the user's target OneDrive, not continued, replyable chat threads. This is one of only two tools in the catalog that explicitly split source and target into separate least-privilege OAuth apps (Shared Mailbox Migration is the other), so the source app can never write and the target app can never read the original chat data.
